To commemorate the 50thanniversary of Mathurin Meheut's death (1882-1958), the museum is presenting a large retrospective of his work at the Museum itself, but also at Lamballe City Hall and the Morlaix Museum.

Presented in different stages, the retrospective is a unique opportunity to rediscover Méheut's favorite themes and subjects, as well as the diversity of his work.  Artist of many talents, Méheut was a celebrated painter, illustrator, decorator, ceramist and sculptor.

April 1st to December 31st 2008
Lamballe Mathurin Méheut Museum.   The exhibit highlights Méheut's early years, including his stay in Roscoff, his first drawings and prints, his decisive trip to Japan and the drawings he completed during the war as a military painter.  The second part of the exhibit is dedicated to Méheut's attachment to land and sea, both recurring themes in his work.
A new exhibit hall presents a video as well as a series of photographs by the artist.

June 14th to August 30th 2008
Lamballe City Hall.   Here, the highlight is on Méheut's protrayal of is native town and surroundings.  Son of a Lamballe craftsman, Méheut shows early signs of interest for painting and drawing.  In his youth, Méheut focused mainly on the landscapes of Lamballe and its surroundings, but will later prefer portraying the movements and attitudes of traditional Breton crafts, such as pottery, tannery or rope-making ....

June 14th to November 10th 2008
Morlaix Museum. In sequence with the Méheut Museum's exhibit, the Morlaix exhibit showcases post-1920 works, with recurring themes such as stunning landscapes and seascapes, including works completed in Provence or Cournouaille, in Brittany.  The exhibit also includes a series of perhaps lesser-known sculptures.
